HELLO AND WELCOME!
My name is Jonathan and I’m a food blogger, cook, baker & photographer. I’m passionate about food and I hope you’ll come back to this site again and again.
Story Behind The Blog.
I first started this blog back in 2011 without so much as a thought of what I was actually going to post. Food blogs were relatively new and I wanted to get in on the action. I started posting recipes with bad structure and awful photos, just hoping that someone out there would come across my little site and read it. Slowly, I started to teach myself the ropes and really elevate my photography. I stopped worrying about doing everything “right” and started focusing on having fun. Ultimately, that’s what I want this site to be; a place where people can learn something new, try the recipes and keep coming back again and again.
I often get told that there are too many photos in my posts and that people just want the recipe. The whole idea of this site however, is to show people the recipes through a series of step-by-step images. Cooking is a very visual task, as much as it is physical. So many times people go to a food site or pick up a cookbook and they’re lost without a guide. They’ll question themselves asking, “Is this supposed to look like this? Am I doing this right?” This site is a tool to use while cooking so that you can look at a step, see the image and know exactly what to do!

Don’t second guess yourself. The key is to just start one. It might not be the best at the beginning, but it doesn’t have to be. Also don’t focus too much on what other people are doing. Do what you enjoy and what makes you happy!
I’m much more of a savory person than sweet. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still get down with a sweet treat every now and then, but savory is my go to. I’ll never say no to a bag of chips and I’ll always skip dessert so that I can have a second helping of dinner instead.
I’m always looking for new clients, whether it’s for developing a recipe or photography work. Please reach out through my Contact Page and let’s work together!
You’re welcome to use one photo from one of my blog posts as long as there is proper attribution. Something similar to, “Photo courtesy of The Candid Appetite” with a link back to the original recipe post will do the trick. Please don’t use my photo and recipe together without permission. You can always reach out for inquiries.
Thanks for asking! All of the recipes on The Candid Appetite are copyrighted. Please do not repost my recipes verbatim without permission. If you tried a recipe yourself, I love that you want to share one of my recipes! Feel free to use the ingredients list, but write the instructions in your own words and include a link back to my original recipe post. Please don’t use my photo and recipe together without permission, though.
The recipes I share on this blog are a mix of original ideas that I come up with and bring to life and also, recipes that I’ve come across from books, magazines or other sites. If I’ve adapted a recipe, I’ll always list it and encourage everyone to go see the original. I often find inspiration randomly and will inevitably change it up so as to make it my own.
My favorite type of recipe is a mash-up. I love coming up with new ideas to combine two classic, or well-known ideas, into one even better idea. Mash-ups are a great way to have fun in the kitchen. Not all recipes are supposed to be so serious and strictly regimented. It’s okay to have fun in the kitchen, without the fear of messing up. In the end, it almost always turns out right, and if it doesn’t, then at least we’re learning along the way.
People who love to eat are always the best people.
