Apple Pie Caramel Apples

These Apple Pie Caramel Apples are modeled after the apples you can find at carnivals or amusement parks. One of my favorite flavors are the apple pie flavor. It’s basically like an apple pie on the go. A fun apple pie. Not only are these apple pie caramel apples delicious but they’re also super fun to make. This could be a great fall weekend baking project. And you know what’s great? There’s no baking involved. Then at the end you’ll have a delicious treat, so really it’s a win win situation.

Apple Pie Caramel Apples
Equipment
- Saucepan
- Skewers
- Bowl
Ingredients
- 6 large apples such as Granny Smith or Gala
- 2 11-ounce packages soft caramel squares, unwrapped
- 4 tablespoons water
- 2 cups vanilla candy melts or white chocolate melted
- 1/2 cup crushed cinnamon graham crackers about 4 sheets
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Bring a small pot of water to a low boil. Skewer the apples with wooden lollipop sticks. Quickly dip each apple in the boiling water for about 3 to 5 seconds to remove the waxy coating. This will ensure the caramel sticks and doesn’t slide off. Dry each apple and set aside on a baking sheet lined with parchment.
- Place the caramels and water in a heatproof bowl and set over a pot of simmering water, making sure the water doesn’t touch the bottom of the bowl. Cook, stirring often, until the caramels have melted through.
- Dip each apple into the caramel, returning to baking sheet. Let set for about 30 minutes in the fridge. Dip each apple in the melted candy melts, then dip into the crushed graham crackers and sprinkle with the cinnamon sugar (mix them together first before sprinkling on).
- Let set for another 30 minutes before eating. Enjoy!
