Mai Tai Sangria

No other cocktail says, “Cheers to the Weekend,” quite like a Mai Tai. Throw in a pool, a lounge chair and some snacks and you got yourself the perfect summer scenario. This one just happens to be made in a pitcher—oh, and did I mention it also has joined forces with refreshing sangria so that you get double the fun? It’s the ultimate Saturday cocktail. This Mai Tai Sangria is one of my favorite batch cocktails to make for parties, potlucks, gatherings or BBQs. You really can’t go wrong with it!

Equipment

  • Pitcher

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle dry white wine such as Sauvignon Blanc
  • 1 ½ cups dark rum
  • 1 cup orange liqueur
  • ½ cup fresh lime juice
  • ½ cup fresh orange juice
  • ½ cup orgeat almond syrup
  • 2 oranges sliced
  • 1 red pear sliced
  • 2 kiwi peeled and sliced
  • 2 limes sliced
  • 1 small pineapple ½ cut into wedges for garnish, the other ½ peeled, cored and cut into large chunks
  • ½ cup maraschino cherries drained

Instructions

  • In a large pitcher, stir together the wine, rum, orange liqueur, lime juice, orange juice, and almond syrup until well combined. Add in the sliced oranges, pear, kiwi, limes and pineapple chunks. Cover with plastic wrap and chill for at least 3 hours.
  • To serve, fill large wine glasses with ice and pour in the sangria. Spoon in some of the fruit into each glass. Garnish with pineapple wedges, cherries and little cocktail umbrellas before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

Orgeat is an almond syrup that can be found at most liqueur stores or online. If you can’t find it, use a big splash or two of almond extract instead!
